Excitement and never ending enthusiasm reign the grounds of the Dubai Creek Park on Friday, 16TH FEBRUARY 2007 with SMKC Dubai

The climate was cool and ideal for a family picnic and that’s exactly what

happened on Friday, 16th February 2007 at Creek Park, Dubai as

St. Mary’s Konkan Community (SMKC) Dubai gathered together for their annual picnic with the theme “ONE COMMUNITY, ONE FAMILY, ONE SPECIAL

    PICNIC”.

All SMKC Dubai members were asked to assemble at Gate No. 4 of Dubai Creek Park at 8.00 A.M. and as the clock ticked there was steady flow of crowd to the Creek park, after the 9.00 A.M. mass.  The day was reserved for a get together for family and friends, young and old, bachelor or married bachelor /spinster and all joined together as ONE LARGE FAMILY of the Konkan world.

The breakfast was served from 8.30 A.M. onwards and the program

started at 9.30 A.M. sharp, with Norbert Sequeira welcoming the

crowd and explaining the theme of the picnic.  Mr. Noel Mascarenhas,

the Main Co-ordinator of SMKC Dubai then extended a warm welcome

to one and all and invited all gathered to enjoy the picnic with their

    family and friends.

To get the crowd into action, the warm up game was conducted and the gathered fun loving entire group at the Creek Park were divided into 4 team based on the friendship wrist band given at the entrance gates RED, BLACK, Blue and Yellow.  The team was then asked to select their Team Captains / Assistant and a team name.       Appropriate names were selected by each team"RED BULLS” (Red color band) “BLACK BERRIES with black wrist bands, “UZWAD” by the blue color team and “SUNFLOWER by the yellow banded people.

As the thrilling breaking of pot was going on at one end of the park, various other games prepared by Frenny were announced by Sunita & Jennifer for different age groups & as planned SMKC Volunteers got into action.

Fighting Cats” for 3 to 8 years,

“Aluminium Foil Art”   for  8 to 15 years

“Diving for Gems” for 15 to 25 years

“Passing the Bottle” for 26 years and above.

The senior members (above 55 years) too sitting on chairs had a game of their ownTearing of newspaper into a longest strip.   Many Couples had assembled to enjoy the fun of clean shaving their partners and it was quite difficult to judge the winners.

“Babies in Fashion Parade was the cutest competition as it was held for the age group 0 – 2 years.  It was a pleasure to see so many tiny tots decked up with all fancy clothes.

3 winners were selected for each category of games.

At around 12.00 noon, when the mikes were off for prayers, the teams "RED BULLS”,  BLACK BERRIES”,  UZWAD” and “SUNFLOWER gathered in competition vying each other and enjoying the selected team games such as “Hearty Meal, Bean and Eggs, River Crossing, Passing the key through a chain of worn shirts, Sponge pass &  Snowman”.

Sumptuous lunch was served from 12.30 PM onwards and even then the team members did not budge to go and grab the delicious food & were forced to do so at 1.30 PM.

Fun continued with the on- the- spot fashion parade for the most appropriate “Sunny and multicoloured clothes” worn by the picnickers and again the queue built up to participate in the show.     This was followed by Snowman Competition for the teams and the Talents Competition of dancing, singing and enacting a skit (each of 2 minutes max).

Spot prizes such as “grandmother with her grandchild in her arms,

hole in the socks for gents and longest ear ring for ladies” were given

away and the fun continued until it got ready for a game of “Tambola”.

Valuable electronic items were given away to the winners of Tambola and

the grand prize of Jet Airways domestic ticket was won by Ms. Lilian in the

    crowd.

Yes, everyone gathered were waiting for the result of the team action and play.     The emerging winners judged by 3 prominent persons were “UZWADfollowed closely by RED BULLS”.    BLACK BERRIES, and SUNFLOWER won the 3rd and 4th place but nobody was disappointed as everyone took home some gifts for themselves and their children.

The entire program was compered by Norbert Sequeira, Sunitha

Baptist and Jennifer Mascarenhas in Konkani & English to suit the young

    and old.

Drinking water was in surplus and gifts galore donated by well wishers and committee members to a crowd of around 500 people.

    Special thanks to:

Mr. Lancy Madtha of Integrated Freight Systems for electronic items

Mr. Henry D’souza of Life Mineral Water & Prestige Shipping Co.

Evening high tea with delicious fruit cakes, biscuits and idlies were

served since 3.00 PM and every one left having thoroughly enjoyed

the fun and frolic of the picnic organized by the St. Mary’s Konkan

Community (SMKC) DUBAI until 4.45 PM

Yes, when conducting the spot prize by Jennifer, it was noted that people not only from Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman but also from Doha, Qatar were there in the midst of around 500 people.  So it covered the entire United Arab Emirates as ONE large big family of Konkan speaking people.    As the crowd were in full praise for the disciplined, well organized PICNIC which was packed full of enthusiasm and excitement, some even showed the bag full of gifts and goodies that they were carrying home for their  participation in various games and team fun.

It turned out to be as announced "ONE LARGE COMMUNITY ** ONE BIG FAMILY * * * ONE SPECIAL PICNIC”.
